President Barack Obama has finally made public a massive clean energy plan which is aimed at reducing large quantity of carbon emissions from the country’s coal- power station by 32% by 2030 which in comparison that of 2005.
“Today after working with states and cities and power companies, the EPA is setting the first ever nationwide standards to end the limitless dumping of carbon pollution from power plants,” Obama stated on Monday from the White House, and added afterwards”Washington is starting to catch up with the vision of the rest of the
“Climate change is no longer just about the future that we’re predicting for our children or grandchildren, it’s about the reality that we’re living with every day,” President Obama said.
President Barack Obama described the “Clean Power Plan” as “the biggest most important step we’ve ever taken to combat climate change,” in a video released by the White House on social media Saturday night.
“We’re the first generation to feel the impact of climate change and the last generation that can do something about it,” Obama boldly stated on Monday.
The strategy will increase the renewable energy target by 30% by 2030, thereby incorporating more wind energy and solar power. Its low cost will be affordable to several households, since the Clean Power Plan is set to reduce the average American’s monthly electricity bill by 7% in 2030.
If this Plan is implemented and successfully accomplished, the total public health and benefits associated with climate are predicted to be worth USD $45 billion annually.
The Clean Power Plan has been accepted by the US solar industry. “Solar energy is the most sensible compliance option for states under the Clean Power Plan,” Rhone Resch, President and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) indicated.
“Solar works in all 50 states, has zero carbon emissions, creates more jobs per megawatt (MW) than any other technology, and can be deployed cost-effectively and quickly – all while improving grid reliability.”
Several businesses and investors such eBay, Green Mills Inc, Levi Strauss and Co., Mars Inc. and Sun Edison have indicated their interests and supported the ‘Clean Energy Plan’. In addition President has told all Americans to support the strategy.
“We can choose to believe that Super storm Sandy, and the most severe drought in decades, and the worst wildfires some states have ever seen were all just a freak coincidence. Or we can choose to believe in the overwhelming judgment of science – and act before it’s too late.”
Even though majority are in support of the Clean Power Plan, other sectors like the coal and gas industries oppose it.
“Over the next few days we will hear the same tired old plays from the old special interests play book,” stated Gina McCarthy, the EPA’s administrator. Yet, she thinks the agency has the legal right to defend the Plan.
President Barack Obama’s term of office has seen to the increased amount of solar energy generation and wind energy generation.
