Cheaper Home Batteries Program

The Labor Government have announced the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, should they be re-elected in the May 2025 Federal Election. Details include:

  • Batteries already purchased and installed are eligible, as long as they haven’t been switched on or connected to the grid until 1 July 2025
  • In addition to residential homes, the rebate is also open to businesses and community groups
  • The subsidy will approximately be $370 per kilowatt-hour and decrease over time
  • The program is set to run until 2030
  • Eligible battery systems from 5kWh – 50kWh capacity, but a system up to 100kWh can be installed
  • Batteries will need to be VPP capable, but you’re not required to participate in a VPP
  • Owners of existing batteries will be eligible if they choose to install another battery
  • The battery must be attached to a new/existing solar system
  • If you own multiple properties, a system can be installed at each property

Demand and installation wait times are likely to increase after the Election, and battery inventory may be in short supply. To understand more about home batteries or to request a free quote, reach out to GEM Energy online or by calling 1300 969 471.
